Recent years have witnessed a dramatic increase in the use of the Internet for health-related purposes and the number of web-based resources providing access to health information and research has grown significantly. How is the social web affecting the way we seek health information? How is social media data being used within healthcare? Are clinicians embracing the opportunity to put research into practice? How has social media impacted on health information seeking? Can people from a wide range of backgrounds locate relevant, accurate information? This module aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the impact that the web has already had on health and social care and will continue to have on the future of e-health.Live online lectures are delivered via Adobe Connect and are recorded for non-live viewing by students who cannot attend the live session, or who wish to revisit the content.
